Territorial and Electorate Size Influence: Participation/Competitiveness in Costa Rica’s 2016 Local Scale Elections

In recent years, political geography has begun to revisit traditional geographical theories using quantitative methodologies. Size, location, density, position, and other important geographic characteristics have reemerged as central data points in the analysis of phenomena. this article, we analyze possible relationships between size (territorial electoral) electoral outcomes (competitiveness participation) Costa Rica’s 2016 local (canton) elections. effort, seek a tradition abandoned by some currents geography, often erroneously associated with determinism widely criticized researchers since 1960s. Rica was chosen for study because it is considered one most successful democratic systems Latin America, now facing issues about its new decentralization process. Linear Ordinary Least Squares (ols) regressions were used elections 82 Rican cantones. This article reveals that there are causal territorial participation/competitiveness Rica. Conclusion Geographical analyses crucial understand voter turnout competitiveness. Our conclusion could help Ricans create strategies further develop their democracy
